2 Westley Richards Single Shot Rifles. More confusion for the 80th!

The small frame single shot rook rifle alongside the larger brother .360

Discussion from the recent post on the choice of 28g versus Single shot have been lively and one point which was raised was the size of the single shot I placed with the 28g droplock. To throw another choice 'in the pot' I have now photographed the only 2 single shot rifles ( which will be remaining here also!!)  I have here together, a wonderful little rook rifle that I have shown before and the .360 from the previous photograph with the 28g.

Westley Richards .22LR and .360 Single Shot. (1 of 1)-2The copper plate at top right is a printing plate from a vintage catalogue we produced.

Hopefully the advice will continue to flow in!

    Good Day Simon,

All things are possible among reasonable men!!!!!! HAHAHAH!!!!
Until that time it will be crackers and marmalade, have a great day Simon. Thank you very much for putting such wonderful and rare guns on your blog Simon. Without all your time and effort guys like me would never even know such beautiful gun exist!!

PS: Is this .360 a droplock?

Now we are talking...much slimmer and easy to carry about.

Simon, I appreciate all the time and effort you put into The Explora.

I like the single shot idea. Scaled frame, as small as possible for the 450/400 2 3/8" cartridge. No more than six pounds, preferably a bit closer to five pounds with a trigger pull of half the weight. Maybe, a WR style hooded front sight of only half the length to change the proportions, and only a two leaf rear sight regulated for fifty and seventy-five yards. If it has to be smaller, then maybe a rook frame in 38 spec. with a barrel twist for the wadcutter target load and regulated for twenty-five and fifty yards. A two barrel set might be nice. Thanks for the fun exercise, and happy early birthday.

    Simon,

I am looking at the two rook rifles this morning and it came to me why the .360 is so appealing in my humble opinion. It look more like a small frame Ovundo to me. So sleek with, such sexy lines, the horn tip, while I am a fan of rook rifles, the Ovundo may be the nicest O/U being made today. So I am not certain if amyone else has seen my visual interpretation? but it wins my vote and perhaps this is why....

Whichever choice he makes, it should have a scalloped frame! That small rifle is fantastic!

How about a rifle/shotgun combination if we are only allowed one!
That will test Stuart and his chums.

I would suggest that for his Birthday the Gentleman go with a small bore rook rifle.

Maybe something in a .22 LR. That would be fun on a Texas ranch.

Can you build a .22 LR Rook rifle?

We will have to see if we can, the proof as they say, is in the pudding!

If I could have my wish, it would be so:

Large Frame - .222 with detachable Fixed 4x scope, with .28 gauge barrel with Teague choke set.

Small Rook Frame - .22 WMR (very useful in Texas) with similar detachable Fixed 4x scope, with .410 3" chamber, rifled for the last 4"-6", A "Mini Explora"

    Hello Simon

I have been nagging you for years to build Rook rifles! The small frame size would be ideal for any .22 rimfire, .38 Special, or my favourite .32-20. Remember that Rook rifle loads should be sub-sonic.
The larger frame is more like a Kipplauf, and 7 x 57R or .303 would be lovely...

Ha Ha!, those who know me come with a cheque and a good story, nagging doesn't work! They end up with something like a pair of 4g or some other mad project I get started on, falling block rifles for instance!

      Simon
