A Diverse Selection of Fine Rifles for Discerning Hunters

Currently for sale at Westley Richards & Co. is a very fine selection of big game hunting rifles to cover shots from 50 steps to 1,000 yards. Whether you are in pursuit of old Dagga boys or big horn sheep, we currently have the right tool for the job.

Having reportedly made less than 500 double rifles in the firm’s long, illustrious history, this is a relatively rare item and a very nice, very practical example of a Purdey double rifle.

Based on Beesley’s patented self-opening action made famous by Purdey’s, the hammerless, back-action sidelock has a strap over comb, clipped fences, and Purdey’s distinctive bolstered action body and a rib-extension third faster. The rifle also features bolted manual safety, disk set strikers, gold lined cocking indicators two triggers the front one being articulated, and a rolled guard-bow for the right-hand shooter. The action body, lock plates, and furniture finish is brushed bright and highlight Purdey’s house rose & scroll engraving.

The 24” chopper lump barrels have Purdey’s traditional shaped quarter-rib and a ramp front sight with a brass bead and flip up night sight under Purdey’s unique “clam shell” sight protector. Fitted with one standing and one folding leaf sight (50 yds, 100 yds) and factory mounted S&B variable power rifle scope in quick detachable claw mounts. Of course the rifle features Purdey’s very reliable and trouble free Wem ejector system.

J. Purdey & Sons .375 H&H Belted Magnum Hammerless Ejector Double Rifle

The highly figured walnut stock feature’s Purdey’s famous Slacum finish with a distinctive figure in the wood of vertical striping or “fiddle-back” with a traditional right-hand beaded cheekpiece and 14 ½” LOP over a leather covered pad. The stock oval remains blank. As is standard on modern era Purdey double rifles, the rifle features Purdey’s beavertail forend with an Anson push-rod release.

This rifle remains in as new condition and is complete in its maker’s lightweight leather case with canvas cover. This rifle was completed in the early 1990’s and is pictured on pg. 351 of Donald Dallas’ book, James Purdey & Sons, Gun and Rifle Makers, Two Hundred Years of Excellence.

Holland & Holland .500 3” NE Royal Model Double Rifle

Completed in the early 2000’s, I acquired this rifle from the original owner’s family and we are offering it here for sale for the first time.

A quintessential London made double rifle with all of Holland’s hallmark features. Based on Holland’s infallible “Royal” hammerless, back-action sidelock with hand detachable locks, patented by the firm in 1909. The square action body has beaded edges and Holland’s distinctive, and very elegant bolsters and a strap over comb.  The action is also fitted with disk-set strikers, Holland’s hidden third fastener, manual safety, two triggers with the front one being hinged, a rolled guard bow for the right hand shooter, gold lined cocking indicators, and the word “SAFE” inlaid in gold.

The color hardened action body and lock plates are embellished in Holland’s “Royal” engraving, a deep foliate scroll pattern that has been the House’s traditional pattern for well over 100 years.

Holland & Holland .500 3” NE Royal Model Double Rifle

The 25” chopper lump barrels have London proof marks from 2002 and the Maker’s name and 33 Bruton St. Address. Holland’s quarter rib and ramp front sight are fitted with 1 standing/1folding rear sight (50, 100 yds) Holland’s hinged night sight.

The nicely figured walnut stock features a right hand cheekpiece with a beaded edge and a rubber recoil pad with a smooth top edge. The full pistol grip has a trap grip cap, also color hardened and engraved, and a blank stock oval along the toe line between the stud sling swivel and stock’s toe. The rifle also has a very nicely shaped semi-beavertail forend that makes for a much easier rifle to shoot and handle.

The rifle is complete in its Maker’s O&L case and remains in excellent overall condition. A superb rifle made by one of history’s finest gunmakers and chambered in one of today’s most desirable big game cartridges.

Gunwerks .28 Nosler ClymR Ti Long Range Rifle System

Established in Cody, WY and in business since 2006, Gunwerks produces the benchmark for today’s modern long range hunting rifles. The rifles are based on Gurnwerks’ GLR action and come complete from the factory with an appropriate scope, factory loaded ammo, and custom cut turrets matching the scope and ammo up. Of all the models Gunwerks offers, the ClymR model is the lightest weight, coming in right at 8 lbs. scoped.

The example currently for sale at the U.S. Agency is chambered in .28 Nosler, which is basically a .425 Magnum Express necked down to a .284” caliber (7mm) bullet. It pushes a 180gr bullet with a very high ballistic coefficient around 3,000 fps and is one of today’s most popular long range hunting cartridges.

This is a right-handed action in titanium (Ti) with Gunwerks' hinged floorplate and fitted with a 22” Carbon Fiber wrapped barrel and a removable Directional muzzle brake.

The stock has a 13.5" LOP on the unique ClymR system stock. The innovative stock shape has a negative comb, flat toe line, and improved ergonomics which encourage proper grip technique and improve recoil control.

Rifle is also fitted with its factory installed Kahles K318i 3.5-18x50mm CCW MOAK rifle scope with illuminated reticle in the first focal plane and LH wind adjustment and custom BDC turret cut for the 180gr Berger Hybrid factory loaded ammo also included with the rifle. The scope is mounted with Gunwerks 34mm Unity light weight scope rings with integral mounts.

Action, bottom metal, and muzzle brake are finished in Forrest Green and the stock has a matching Carbon Forest stock paint.

I shot this rifle out to 1,000 yards with astonishing accuracy. Its weight and size make it a pleasure to handle and carry. One of the most sophisticated, accurate, and compact rifles available today.
