Aguirre y Aranzabal – AyA 28g No. 1 Round Action shotgun with a Spanish manufacture date of 2000. 

Based on an H&H type bar-action hammerless sidelock with gilded lock work, intercepting sears, disk-set strikers, gas vents on the balls of the action, gold lined cocking indicators, an automatic safety with the word “SAFE” in gold, and two triggers – the front one hinged – with a rolled guard bow. 

A true 28g scaled frame size is complemented by the rounded bar and will make this gun a pleasure to carry in the field. The action body and lock plates are color hardened and engraved in a traditional R&S pattern, the furniture is blacked. 

The gun was special ordered with 29” chopper lump barrels with 2 ¾" chambers (70mm) that are choked .003” in the right barrel and .008” in the left with a concave game rib, H&H type ejectors and an H&H type self-opening mechanism.  

Stocked to the fences with a killer piece of walnut. Just as the original Boss & Co. Round body side-by-side stocks’ were shaped, there are no drop points behind the locks, further accentuating the round-body feel. The stock has a 14 7/8” LOP over a checkered butt and both the stock’s wrist and the splinter forend are finely checkered in a point pattern with Mullered borders. The stock oval remains blank.

Overall, gun remains in excellent original condition. Barrel black is 99% and the bore is perfect. The stock has a few handling marks here or there, but nothing of note. The color hardening has a nice patina. The gun has certainly been shot but apparently well cared for.  

Complete in a lightweight leather case.  

Weighing in at 5 lbs 11 oz, the gun is quite lively in the hands but swings very nicely with the 29” barrels.  

In my opinion, one of the nicest guns the Spanish make.
