Serial Number 30564

description
S3 EELL introduced in 1964 and based on Beretta’s patented over-and-under back-action sidelock ejector action with hand detachable locks. Action body machined from single block of special nickel-chromium steel, completely hardened, with distinctive trapezoidal shoulders on action body and mono-blocs that counteract the forces at play when fired. The gun has bifurcated lumps and trunnions design reminiscent of the J. Woodward design of 1913, allowing for a very shallow, slim action even with the superposed barrels.
The model “S3 EELL” is stamped inside the action shoulders opposite the serial number. The EELL grade was also noted by a crown inlayed in gold on the top lever, as found on this gun. The action also has a “fretted” top lever (or pierced top lever) all internal parts of locks and ejectors are gold plated. The action has a brushed or “coin” finish with a full coverage floral pattern surrounding game scene vignettes of birds inlayed in gold. Two vignettes on each lock plate and one on the bottom of the action. The initials “J R D” are inlayed on the guard bow. The lever to remove the lock plates is hidden in the right side lock plate. Engraving by Angelo Berglioni, one of the master engravers employed by Beretta during this period.
Stock is a richly figured piece of walnut with a full pistol grip that with a scalloped horn grip cap. The stock and extra-long, yet slim field forend have especially fine checkering; another hallmark of the S3 EELL.
This is a true three barrel set of Mono-bloc, Boehler Anitcorro steel with vent ribs, 2 ¾" chambers and fixed chokes. Each barrel is inlayed “I”, “II”, and “III” in gold Roman numerals the top of their respective top rib at the breech. One forend for all three barrels. The gun weighs 7 lbs. 6 oz. with all three barrels. The barrel lengths, chokes and markings are as follows:

A very nice gun in all regards.
