Westley Richards 8g Anson & Deeley Fixed Lock Wildfowl Gun
Serial Number O9406
SOLD
description
Westley Richards & Co. 8g Anson & Deeley Fixed Lock Wildfowl Gun.
Finished and sold to a F.W. Lanchester who, we believe, was Frederick W. Lanchester (Oct. 23, 1868 – March 8, 1946) who was an English automotive engineer and founder of Lanchester Engine Company and The Lanchester Motor Company in Birmingham, England.
The massive action is an Anson & Deeley Fixed Lock action with a Snap Lever work and Model "C" Doll's Head bolting, an automatic "beetle" back safety and two triggers. Action retains nearly all of its original, and very vivid, case colors.
The equally massive 34" dovetail lump barrels of Westley Richards Special steel are beautifully struck and have perfect bores and have 4 1/4" chambers and appropriately over bored barrels with "extreme choke" in each barrel. The barrels are marked "Westley Richards & Co." "London" and have a flat matted top rib. Barrels show nearly all of their original black.
Original English walnut Stock has the original Silver's anti-recoil pad as offered on this gun with a steel capped pistol grip and extended trigger tang. Splinter forend has the traditional horn forend tip and Deeley forend latch. Stock still has its original stock finish and remains unaltered.
Finally, the gun is offered in its original lightweight canvas case w/ accouterments and original hand written load and pattern data.
Without doubt one of the finest examples of an early 20th Century Westley Richards we have ever encountered.
