description
Westley Richards .318 Accelerated Express Bolt Action Magazine Rifle with Patented Detachable Barrel.
Completed prior to WWI, this rifle is based on a commercial Mauser action with its original "flag" safety, horn bolt knob, and hinged floor plate with Westley's distinctive lever-release. The action is coupled with Westley's unique collar that is braised on the breech ring that corresponds with the patented double lug, like a "bayonet", breech on the detachable 26" barrel.
Made of Westley's "Special Steel", the barrel has an island rear sight with 1 standing/4 folding leaves (100, 200, 300, 400, with W.R.&Co.'s patented combination foresight and rearward folding foresight-protector.
The original stock has a 14" LOP over a smooth butt plate with trap, a horn grip cap and forend tip. There is a sling swivel along the toe line and a small sling-eye on the bottom of the barrel. The bore has Medford rifling and is remains very good.
There is a small crack in the stock, just in front of the floor plate. The metal has has a later re-black but the lettering on the action and barrel remains crisp. The finish has since faded on the action but remains bright on the barrel and floor plate. The stock has been re-oiled over the years. Overall the rifle is in good working order and the barrel remains tight in the action when put together.
