Westley Richards .425 Magnum Lightweight Carbine

Serial Number 37682

An exceedingly rare Westley Richards .425 Magnum Express Lightweight Carbine completed in 1911. Based on a standard length Mauser action with a horn bolt knob, flush fitting bottom metal, and a 3-position M70 type safety. House pattern scroll engraving on the floor plate and receiver.

The rifle has aWestley’s patented detachable barrel that is 23” in length with a series of 3 steps to lighten its weight and with a very rare, factory done, milled finish.

The island rear sight has 1 standing/3 folding leaves and Westley’s combination foresight and patented sight protector.

The walnut stock has a RH cheekpiece, a horn forend tip and a wrap checkering pattern.

The rifle was originally made with Westley’s patented scope mounts but was restored by Westley’s in the 1980’s and updated with a Jaeger side mount.

This is an unusual configuration for a .425 but one that was offered throughout the pre-war and between-the-wars years by Westley’s as an alternative to the drop box magazine and long barrel the .425 Magnum is normally encountered with.

While Westley’s produced many .425 Magnum rifles, they are quite rare to find today in any configuration. This one being probably the most unique I have ever encountered.
