Single barrel sporting rifle, percussion fired, muzzle loading rifle.
Bar action hammer lock engraved W. Greener with serpentine “S” shaped hammer, percussion fence, engraved in a bold foliate-scroll pattern.
The .65 caliber, 30 ¾" Charcoal Iron round barrel with a flat smooth top engraved: “W. Greener Sole Inventor of the Expansive Bullet”. Small “V” notch rear sight and brass bead front sight.
Stock has straight checkered grip, 14 3/8” LOP over a smooth steel butt with a 4-tiered widow’s peak, smooth forend and forend tip, steel ramrod and steel fittings.
Weighs 6 lbs. 8.4 oz.
Barrel is mostly grey showing good pattern, locks are also mostly gray with mottled traces of case color in protected areas and mostly gray butt plate and trigger bow and tang. Stock is attached to barrel with side nail and oval shaped escutcheons with circular extensions that are engraved.
Bore remains excellent.
William Greener set up shop from 1829 to 1869 and was the father of the famous W.W. Greener. William Greener is credited as inventor of the expanding bullet (ca. 1835).
Only identifying numbers to gun are “344” stamped inside stock channel and “22” on bottom barrel flat and four hash marks (e.g. IIII) inside the stock’s channel and on the bottom flat of the barrel.
