1950's vintage Griffin & Howe Sporter built on a 1948 Winchester Model 70 "transition" action and chambered in .404 Jeffery. Model 70 action has clover leaf tang and 3 position safety, two panel checkered bolt knob and action is jeweled in the G&H manner. Barrel is 26" and has a barrel band swivel, and a G&H banded ramp front sight but no rear sight as it was originally made. with a horn tip. G&H stock with their distinctive right hand cheekpiece and wrap checkering pattern and is fitted with two machined sling swivel studs, blued steel grip cap, and horn forend tip. Action is fitted with a G&H side mount with 1" rings and a Lyman peep sight; barrel was purposely never fitted with a quarter rib or rear sight. The rifle retains about 98% of the both G&H rust blue on the metal as well as the original stock finish. The rifle has a 13 3/8" LOP over the original Silver's pad. Rifle comfortably holds three rounds in the magazine and feeds flawlessly. The bore is perfect and only belmishes various old handling marks that are just part of the gun's patina. Overall this gun represents great value and is in exceptional condition; a very viable gun for the next safari.
