A Trio of Small-Batch Westley Richards Hunting Knives

Westley Richards complements the guns, rifles and leather goods made in-house through close collaborations with a small number of exceptional artisans, in order to offer customers assuredly top-class products across the range. Following a months-long process of discussions and product testing, Westley Richards is pleased to announce a new range of knives exclusive to the company and truly worthy of its name.

British bespoke bladesmith Marc Zabroski has risen to the very top of his craft with his modern output of smart designs for hunting and utility knives, executed with real artistry. While seeking a worthy knife-making partner for Westley Richards, our M.D., Trigger (Anthony Alborough-Tregear), considered the merits of all the top makers from the UK, the US and further abroad.

A keen knife collector himself, Trigger has a degree of expertise in the appreciation of handmade blades and the suitability of different sizes, shapes and weights for different sporting applications.

Getting the balance right between quality, finesse and durability was a key issue when considering the range of knives we should offer, and exclusivity was non-negotiable. Westley Richards is not a firm content to put its name to a standard issue product and pass it off as its own.

We trialled the concept in 2024 with a limited run of five Zabroski-made Westley Richards stalking knives, which sold out mere days after launch. Now, we are about to follow that with the release of three knife styles made exclusively for Westley Richards, representing the sole annual output of hand-made knives by Marc Zabroski.

The new models consist of the small ‘Companion Knife’, the medium ‘Belt Knife’ and the larger ‘Explorer Knife’. Between them, they fulfil the range of requirements any sportsman may find appropriate for general use, whether fishing for trout in a Berkshire brook or hunting buffalo in Tanzania, miles from civilisation.

Like our gunmakers, Marc Zabroski is a dedicated artisan. He makes every component of his knives from raw materials. His blades begin as steel bar stock, while his handles start as deer antler, exotic hardwoods or sections of ancient mammoth ivory reclaimed from primeval permafrost.

From these base materials, Marc meticulously creates his beautifully shaped and weighted knives for discerning sportsmen and women. He has long harboured a desire to have his work appreciated and represented by Westley Richards, a company he has admired since his youth and sought to become worthy of representing.

With this announcement, his ambitions have finally been realised and a perfect partnership has commenced. For Westley Richards customers, a knife worthy of our name is now available.

The first of the new knives will be available to view and purchase in autumn 2026, with leopardwood handles leading the collection, followed by reproduction performance ivory and, finally, mammoth ivory this winter. All are supplied with a superb handmade sheath, in Westley Richards signature leather, made by Marc himself.

The blades are engraved ‘Westley Richards’ and ground to a razor's edge. Hand-engraved bolster details are completed here in Birmingham by Westley Richards’ own engravers.

Being entirely handmade to the highest possible standards, these knives are naturally in limited supply. Each new release will be previewed via the Explora Club newsletter in order to prepare our customers for anticipated deliveries. We expect high demand and look forward to a long collaboration with a truly special young British knife-making talent.
