THE FIRST WESTLEY RICHARDS 4 BORE COMES ALIVE

Finally the first of the pair of 4 bore shotguns is headed up, in the vice and being pulled off to it's final shape. This is a sort of make it or break it moment as getting the shape right here is critical to getting a great looking gun. The task has fallen to Keith Haynes who is carefully and diligently pulling off the wood to reveal, what I am confident will be, a great looking gun. This is stock making on a huge scale and credit goes to Keith for doing such a careful job and who stopped today for a little in order to get a 2mm larger diameter pistol cap template made which will allow for a better shape to the pistol grip. It is his care and attention to these little details which will ensure the stock the correct proportion for the gun. Keith is being encouraged in his work by fellow stocker Romain Lepinois and by the master of the big bores Ken Halbert.

    Simon,

These may be the first in years, but historically WR has built others. I have a single, circa 1900. I have seen another that predates mine by a couple of years. how many 4's have WR built?

I should have said 'First Droplock' 4g. Apologies. I am not sure how many 4's were made in other formats. It would be a very lengthy task to research this.
